More Sundance Film Roundups

Word on the street is you either love or you hate The Comedy -- an acerbic accounting of an over-privileged, aged Williamsburg hipster with a total lack of empathy. Personally, I thought director Rick Alverson's commentary on this type of individual was very well executed, subversive and funny. I never knew what the main character, played perfectly by Tim Heidecker in his first dramatic role, was about to do -- not even for a second. For me, that was a major triumph of the film.

Queen of Versailles is just plain masterful. Lauren Greenfield always seems to know where to put the camera and somehow found a way to make some of the (formerly) richest people in the United States trust her enough to capture them fully and in all of their bizarre splendor. A wickedly funny allegory about the American dream, greed, and privilege, the film is packed with quotable one liners and is entertaining and engrossing throughout. I have no doubt this will be a crowd pleaser with audiences and the public will soon get a chance to see it as it will be released by Magnolia Pictures later this year.
