Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) tried to buy the Miami Marlins during the off-season, but was told the baseball team wasn't for sale, according to a report in the Miami Herald.

Owner Jeffrey Loria rejected his "large offer," according to the Herald.

Bush's brother, former President George W. Bush, bought the Texas Rangers with a group of investors in 1989. Bush resigned as CEO in December 1994 but retained his ownership stake in the team. He held onto it until 1998, when the team was sold to billionaire Tom Hicks. Bush made almost $15 million from the sale.

Bush's bid could have set up a Bush-Bush World Series, which would have been the biggest brother vs. brother sporting event since Sunday's Super Bowl.
