Miss Fat Gay Venezuela Breaks Machismo Mold

Venezuela, a country known for its beauty contests, has shaken things up un poquito with its first Miss Fat Gay competition. Chubby men donned evening gowns and swimsuits and gave speeches about changing the world amidst the nation's widespread homophobia, Catholicism and obsession with appearances.

"I'm a queen-plus and I love my body. And I have a great boyfriend who loves me fat," La Maracucha, a veteran drag queen, told The Guardian UK.

"There are a lot of macho types who don't like seeing men in women's clothing," added Alberto Maia, 27, Miss Aragua. "It's not easy for us. Machismo is a disease."

There's no word yet on whether Miss Fat Gay Venezuela will be held again next year.
