"Pass the Line-Item Veto"?!?

The line-item veto was big 10 years ago when Congress passed it and President Clinton signed it into law. It became less big eight years ago -- and perhaps you'll understand my confusion -- when the Supreme Court6-3 as unconstitutional in 1998.

Here's one that confuses me:

I am pleased that Members of Congress are working on earmark reform - because the Federal budget has too many special interest projects. And we can tackle this problem together, if you pass the line-item veto.

The line-item veto. Now that takes me back. That was big a dozen years ago when it was part of the Contract With America. It was big 10 years ago when Congress passed it and President Clinton signed it into law. It became less big eight years ago -- and perhaps you'll understand my confusion -- when the Supreme Court struck it down 6-3 as unconstitutional in 1998.

Hmmm. Did anyone ask Roberts and Alito about the item veto during their hearings?
