When you look back on the development of music tools over the years, you realise how lucky singers of today are in terms of having access to great technology. Among the massive selection of Android apps available on the Google Play Store are some fantastic tools for singers. If anything, the problem is there are so many apps available now that you might end up missing the real gems unless they are pointed out to you.

That’s why I’ve written this article, because these six apps are ones that you, as a singer, really shouldn’t miss out on. You’ll find out how easy it is to practice on-the-go, learn lyrics, record harmonies and warm up consistently. Let’s dive straight in.

The 6 Essential Android Apps For Singers:

1. Acapella Maker - Video Collage: When putting together this article, I reached out to Edtech blogger Oliver Braithwaite, who’s also the founder of Stars & Catz, a company offering tuition in singing, amongst other skills. I asked Oliver if there was a particular educational app on Android that he’d recommend for singers, he replied:

‘I like Acapella Maker, especially for intermediate level singers. It allows singers to record multiple videos in which they sing the melody of a song and then several harmony lines. All the videos are presented in a collage and you can then share the final video or save it. It’s just a really fun way for singers to develop their harmonising.”

2. Karaoke-A-GoGo: This Android application allows you to practice all your favorite songs in the best way possible, with backing tracks. Karaoke-A-GoGo is one of the most popular karaoke apps available on the Google Play Store. It can play high-quality MP3 files through your SD card & has a Quick Play Mode which allows you to practice the songs in your set without a band, anywhere. With the press of a button you’re all set for an enjoyable sing-along session. The app supports playing both the MP3 & CDG karaoke files.

3. Easy Voice Recorder: This Android app helps singers in recording their songs through its unique features including capturing audio in MP4, 3GP and even in the WAV formats for delivering better singing and recording quality. Singers can record songs until their phone’s memory runs out. If you upgrade this app to its pro version then you get access to many other helpful features such as changing your recording input. This app also comes along with an attractive Holo theme.

4. TuneWiki – Lyrics for Music: You’re a singer, so lyrics matter to you. You need to memorise them and you also just need to be able to find out what that annoyingly slurred word in the latest Adele single is. That’s where the Android app TuneWiki comes in.

With the help of this app, singers can locate the lyrics for their latest song discoveries and can listen to their favorite music along with synced lyrics. You can even share the song’s lyrics with friends. It comes with a translator which can translate more than 40 languages and allows you to understand your favorite foreign songs. TuneWiki also allows you to find new songs using its ‘SongBox’ which comprises music that’s either played or suggested by your friends. Singers can also create, manage and alter playlists, and find out new songs with the help of Song Maps and the latest Top Charts feature.

5. Music Volume EQ: A singer often ends up requiring a great volume equalizer and this Android application offers you just that anywhere, anytime. Installing this app on your phone will instantly turn it into a professional quality bit of gear that you’d pay hundreds for normally. It comes along with a lot of exceptional features such as widgets and VU meter, a five-band equalizer and a bass boost effect. A word of warning though; no app is a replacement for understanding good microphone technique. If you’re singing into your mic too loudly on those high, belted notes, the best software on the planet isn’t going to save your sound.

6. Vocal Ease: When it’s your time to shine at a gig or crucial audition, you need to warm up on the go. When you’re nervous and your heart’s pumping, your warm up and often be a calming ritual that helps you feel confident and prepared. At the same time, when your adrenalin’s pumping, it’s easy to warm up too fast, hard or to forget part of the routine. That’s why Vocal Ease is a great option.

Vocal Ease offers you a trusty warm up routine to get yourself ready for any singing performance. You can relax knowing that your routine will be exactly the same every time, guided by the app.
