Democracy is fundamentally, inherently, about thinking of others, working in favor of the greater community. We live in a me, me, me culture.

Taoism believes in opening oneself to the universe. Western culture believes in opening the universe to oneself.

Maybe Trump, like the cracking ice-beds in Antarctica, was just a matter of time.

Taoism is not about mystic inaction, but rather about raw, pragmatic acceptance: the homely, homey, warm and non-resistant path that holds, paradoxically, the control we so crave in a world turned upside down.

Think about it. Or rather, your friend, family member, neighbor, who voted for Trump. With new eyes of acceptance. Sure, they’re wrong. Yep. But also, obviously we don’t have all the answers. So who cares if they’re wrong. So are we. See? Something in common already!

Maybe we can start there.
