Twas the night before the Shutdown, when all thro' the House, A few creatures were stirring, acting like a louse Their bills were crafted by Boehner with care, In hopes the Senate would enjoy receiving a flying mare;

Cruz and the Tea Party were smug in their threads, While visions of denial danc'd in their heads,But Reid stands rigid refusing to budge,"No! No! No!" the Senate says, holding a grudge.

When out on the Lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang to the TV to see what was the matter. Obama to speak said the news flash. Twined in lots of rhetoric, he'll let them clash.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, The shutdown of non-emergency operations is here With little inability to stop it quick I knew America was going to take a donkey kick.

More rapid than eagles the shutdowns came. And I sat there and watched in shame: "Off! Parks, off! Museums, off! Visas and VA! "Off! Grants, off! Housing, off! CDC and EPA!

"To the front door as Americans squall "Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all! Nothing greater than that old battle cry By the Dems & GOP: "Just Stand By";

"We'll weather this storm" -- like marines "For the end justifies our means" And then in a twinkling, I heard on the news -- Who this course of action was going to first abuse.

A winch of my eye and pounding in my head Soon gave me to know I had everything to dread. I spoke not a word, but went to work, A blog post I wrote like a knee jerk.

Tell your Representative and Senator how you feel For that is their Achilles' heel One more thing before I get out of sight God Bless America to all, and to all a good night.
