I love an all-purpose balm -- compact in size, easy to throw in your bag, super hydrating formulas that work all over. What I appreciate from these guys is that they seriously last (thanks to their organic skin-softening ingredients). Here, the three that I'll be keeping close at hand all winter long.
Waxelene: I first learned about this beeswax-based balm from my former editor at Lucky, Jean Godfrey-June. I use it to hydrate the dry areas near my eyes, soften cuticles and chapped lips, even tame flyways; the petroleum jelly-free formula seriously does everything. Plus, it's so natural it only contains four ingredients: beeswax, soy oil, rosemary oil, vitamin E. $7, waxelene.com
Weleda Skin Food: Another dry skin classic. It gives my face (especially above my cheekbones) a dewy sheen and it last for hours and hours. Packed with fatty acids, vitamin E, sunflower oil, organic pansy and rosemary leaf extract, it's especially great for wind-burn, irritated skin. $18, weleda.com
STEAMCREAM: Definitely, the most lightweight of the bunch, this all-vegan formula sinks right in. The product get its name from a steam-drawn process which loosely-binds the ingredients (oatmeal, orange flower and lavender oil) together, making it that much more effective. Once you're done, fill the small tin with whatever you like. $18, steamcream.com
