There are many different types of coaches out there these days.Life coach, business coach, transformational coach, empowerment coach, success coach and I am sure I missed several HUNDRED others.....
The process of coaching is (simply put) the use of questions and perspective to help clients gain clarity. One of the BIGGEST misconceptions about coaching is that coaches GIVE advice. But the actuality is that coaches allow you to guide the conversation and will not give you the answers even if they discovered what them and their tongues were bleeding trying not to give them away! It is this premise that allows a person who is truly coaching the ability to coach on ANYTHING. And, in order to not accidentally veer the conversation off course it is said that a coach's best coaching is done when they have no knowledge of the subject at all. (SURPRISE)
We hear folks saying "how can a coach guide you through something that they haven't experienced?" The answer is, very well actually. One of the fundamental beliefs of coaching is that you have everything you need already so I, as your coach, give you nothing. I just ask questions to help you gain insight for yourself. If your coach is giving advice they aren't coaching. (they are consulting)
So why the need for a niche?
Its not niche COACHING. Its niche MARKETING. As sales people we know that if you don't market to SOMEONE you are marketing to no one. As coaches we have decided which areas of coaching to focus on (niche) in order to help you, the client, be clear on who we support....for marketing purposes. You need to see yourself in our marketing or you will miss the opportunity to have us support you through whatever it is you need support on. Make sense? So if you connect with a coach that isn't exactly in your problem NICHE, reach out anyway. Ask them a few questions. They can probably support you in the way you need them to. After all, we ARE coaches.
