Your Shot: Go On Assignment With National Geographic

As the magazine celebrates its 125th anniversary, National Geographic keeps finding ways to bring readers closer to living out their wanderlust dreams. This time, it comes in the way of a new online photo-sharing community, called Your Shot.

The new platform lets photography enthusiasts connect with National Geographic's photographers and editors through virtual assignments, with the first being "Explore Our Changing World." Photographers are encouraged to share three photos for each assignment, with National Geographic staff photographers and editors then giving tips and feedback. For Explore Our Changing World, star photographer Cory Richards and photo editor Sadie Quarrier will be interacting with users.

Since Your Shot launched in September, more than 300,000 members have joined the community. And along with sharing and viewing incredible images, users have the opportunity to win a bevy of prizes, too. The magazine explains:

At the end of the assignment, in addition to having a photograph published in National Geographic, the winning “editor’s choice” photographer will receive a personal portfolio review with Richards and Quarrier (via phone or Web conference), a five-day National Geographic Photo Workshop in Santa Fe, N.M., from National Geographic Expeditions, a $1,000 gift card to B&H Photo and other prizes.

The "Explore Our Changing World" assignment runs through Oct. 22. Complete contest details can be found here. Take a look at a few of the incredible images from "Explore Our Changing World" below. And for the complete set and more, check out the Your Shot website.
