The nation’s many zoos took to Twitter on Tuesday to give America exactly what it needs: photos of really cute baby animals.
According to Mashable, the whole thing started when the Smithsonian National Zoo tweeted a photo of the gray seal pup that was born over the weekend. Twitter user Sarah Hill then asked the Virginia Aquarium to counter, and started one of the happiest hashtags of 2017.
We welcomed a gray seal pup Jan. 21. The pup appears to be nursing, moving & bonding well w/ mom. https://t.co/l0Bzu7g8ek #Squee pic.twitter.com/nEhuJe6vBk

From there, other zoos and aquariums across the country joined in, which really raised the stakes.
