A growing body of scientific study, "inactivity research," shows that prolonged sitting can lead to serious health problems, regardless of whether you exercise and are at fighting weight.
The "progress" afforded by the Industrial Revolution has provided a natural experiment demonstrating the catastrophic effects of sedentary life. If one considers our genetic wiring, perfected over hundreds of thousands of generations, this all makes perfect sense.
AARP reports that there is "mounting evidence" that sitting increases our risk of cancer, obesity, diabetes and early death "even for people who exercise daily."
