Canadian Fashion Brands And The Celebrities Who Love Them

The fashion landscape of Canada embodies the true Canadian spirit: quietly ruling and being pretty humble about it. Designers all over the country are creating stunning women’s fashion and clothing pieces rivaling the works of the fashion world’s most notorious players, but here are a few that have caught the eyes of the models and celebrities expected to wear such items.

Erdem

Erdem Moralioglu, the Turkish-Canadian designer based in London, creates romantic, feminine pieces with edge and an attitude. While Erdem can claim such fans like Keira Knightley, Ashley Olsen, and Claudia Schiffer, he recently got a shout-out from the only (so-called) millennial voice everyone pays attention to.

Lena Dunham wore a black Erdem dress on the cover of Marie Claire UK. Body conscious Dunham had this to say in a comment on Instagram about the dress:

"Have to thank my beloved @erdemlondon for making me this dress for the cover of UK Marie Claire. It is such a relief to be dressed by a designer who doesn't feel that women sizes 4 and up belong in a belted sack. Thank you, sweet Erdem, for knowing we don't want to look like a gang of art teachers. And thank you, Marie Claire, for thinking a little twisted."

Dunham also wore Erdem to the ostentatiously brazen punk-themed Met Gala this year.

Joe Fresh

It seems that the low-priced brand Joe Fresh just isn’t for us peasants getting our fashion fix on as we stumble through a Loblaw’s or Superstore. The fashion brand recently launched stores in the United States and has a quickly garnered a number of higher profile followers.

Celebrity fashion correspondent Louise Roe is among them in this crisp Joe Fresh dress shirt:

Television star Molly Sims can be counted as a fan:

“The collection today is really, really cute and it’s got a really good mix. The one great thing is just because you’re not spending a lot of money, you’re not losing style!”

And even What Not To Wear’s Clinton Kelly was caught shopping for some Joe Fresh items during a taping of the show while at the store’s 5th Avenue location in New York City:

Smythe

The brand’s number one fan is that soft-spoken duchess everyone keeps talking about: Kate Middleton. (She’s maybe a big deal, right?) While Middleton’s public conversations and speeches are few and far between, her actions resonate louder than any word could when it comes to her love of Smythe. She initially wore the brand when she and William first came to Canada in 2011 shortly after they were married. Since then, Middleton has been spotted numerous times in the brand’s lustrous jackets.

Pink Tartan

Pink Tartan creator Kimberley Newport-Mimran says she finds simplicity the everlasting secret to true fashion elegance, which seems to be working. The brand has a following by celebrities like Kim Cattrall, Jenny McCarthy, Vanessa Williams, and more.

Canadian chanteuse Chantal Kreviazuk is kind of a fan. Maybe. Okay, definitely.

Jason Wu

The now American based, but Vancouver raised, fashion designer hit the big time when Michelle Obama wore that creamy, dreamy creation to Barack Obama’s first inaugural ball after winning the presidency back in 2009. Since then, Wu can claim celebrities like Diane Kruger, Zoe Saldana, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Chastain; the list is seemingly never ending!

But supermodel Karlie Kloss can’t help but rave about the Wu, and between her and the First Lady, shouldn’t that be enough hype?
