Who knew?

It’s not uncommon to hear about celebrities going to rehab for alcohol or substance abuse. But these addictions are not always the reason behind these trips. Some famous figures have admitted themselves for other reasons, such postpartum depression, stress or even porn addiction.

Catherine Zeta-Jones has checked into rehab twice for her bipolar disorder. The first instance was in 2011. At that time, the actress’ rep said that she had “made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder.”The actress went to a treatment centre for a second time in 2013 and joined a 30-day program. Earlier this year, Terry Crews opened up about his porn addiction, which he says nearly destroyed his marriage. In fact, it got so bad that he “literally had to go to rehab for it.” “My issue was and is with pornography is it changes the way you think about people,” he said in February. “People become objects, people become body parts, they become things to be used rather than people to be loved.”“I went to therapy big time,” he continued. “What I was told is I needed to become more aware. Being aware is really just about knowing how you feel, knowing where you are in a particular moment. Hayden Panettiere has been open about her battle with postpartum depression ever since she gave birth to her daughter, Kaya, in December 2014. The 27-year-old voluntarily checked herself into a treatment centre twice – first in October 2015 and again in May 2016 – to “take time to reflect holistically on my health and life.” In 2015, Panettierre spoke about her struggles with postpartum depression, saying: “There’s a lot of misunderstanding — there’s a lot of people out there that think that it’s not real, that it’s not true, that it’s something that’s made up in their minds, that ‘Oh, it’s hormones.’ They brush it off. Surprisingly, late “Star Trek” actor Leonard Nimoy blames the series for his alcohol addiction. Nimoy, who died last year at age 83, said he used to turn to alcohol to wind down after a long day of filming. The addiction got so bad that he eventually went to rehab. “I started drinking regularly, ritually, during the second or third year of our series,” the actor revealed in 2001. “The minute we finished the last shot I would have a drink. You’d never expect that one of the biggest stars in Hollywood was a drug addict. Samuel L. Jackson went to rehab in the '90s for alcohol and substance abuse. “I was tired of the way I felt on drugs,” he told The New York Times in 2012. Jackson also recently spoke about his rehab stint at the BET Awards in June. While accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award, the 67-year-old actor credited his wife and daughter for helping him overcome his addiction. “They found me passed out on the floor after I left somebody’s bachelor party and put my ass in rehab the next day and supported me and pushed me and give me a reason to get up and go and chase it day after day,” he said. Mariah Carey was hospitalized in 2001 after having an “emotional and physical breakdown” where she exhibited bizarre behaviour, such as throwing plates. The singer was then transferred to a rehab facility.Following the incident, the 46-year-old claimed she didn’t have a nervous breakdown, but was simply exhausted instead. “Basically, I exhausted myself, because I was working 21-hour days for at least two or three months straight,” she told ABC. “It was emotional and physical. Demi Moore’s split from Ashton Kutcher in 2011 hit her hard. According to CNN, the actress pulled out of a film project due to stress and entered rehab in January 2012, seeking help from Utah’s Cirque Lodge addiction treatment centre.At the time, a source told E! It might come as a surprise to some that country singer Keith Urban went to rehab just a few months after marrying Nicole Kidman in 2006. This was the third time for Urban, who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction.In a 2015 interview with HuffPost Live, the country star opened up about his road to recovery with Kidman by his side. “On the one hand, there were times early on when I wished I would have been sober and in recovery and everything when I met Nic and I wasn’t. But the other way to look at it, which is a much better way and so true, is that we’ve been able to build our relationship with that...
