Gerard van Grinsven

Gerard van Grinsven joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in July 2013 as President and Chief Executive Officer. Van Grinsven’s career is marked by much success in the healthcare industry. In his leadership role at CTCA, he will build upon his previous experience, coupled with a keen vision for the future of healthcare, to bring exceptional cancer care to patients.

Van Grinsven believes in taking healthcare to a new level by using state-of-the art equipment, innovative clinical practices and, most importantly, a focus on whole-person cancer care. His passion is to create an environment of healing and hope for all who enter CTCA’s doors.

“My vision for CTCA in the future is, foremost, clinical excellence. We must consistently advance our efforts in finding a cure to treat cancer,” says van Grinsven.

Before joining CTCA, van Grinsven was President and CEO of Henry Ford Health System from June 2006 to 2013. While there, he led the construction and development of the 192-bed Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, which opened in March 2009.

Van Grinsven has more than 25 years of global experience in the luxury hospitality industry, having served in operational, corporate and general management positions. Before coming to Henry Ford, he served as Vice President and Area General Manager for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dearborn, Michigan and as Vice President and Area General Manager of Ritz-Carlton hotels in Cleveland, St. Louis and Philadelphia.

During his career, van Grinsven has opened 20 Ritz-Carlton properties worldwide. He was a key member of the team responsible for the company winning the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1999. He also executed The Ritz-Carlton Re-Born Project, which resulted in The Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn being the number one hotel in the company for improved guest and employee satisfaction scores.

Van Grinsven holds a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel Management from The Hotel Management SchoolMaastricht inThe Netherlands. He is a member of the Cornell Division of Nutritional Sciences Advisory Board, and a former board member of the Detroit Regional Chamber, HFHS Western Wayne/Downriver Board of Trustees, and the Michigan Kidney Foundation. In 2003, van Grinsven was named as one of the “100 Emerging Business Leaders” by the Detroit Regional Chamber. He currently serves on the boards of the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce and Fifth Third Bank.
