Kevin Burke 325

Kevin R. Burke, Ph.D., holds a BM in music performance (French horn) from Appalachian State University and two degrees from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), an MM in music history and a Ph.D. in musicology. During graduate school, he was the recipient of a Fulbright Grant for dissertation research at Ludwig-Maximilians University and the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich, Germany. He taught courses in music history and music research at CCM prior to arriving at Franklin College.

At Franklin College, Burke teaches music theory, aural skills, music history, listening to music and world music.

Burke is an active scholar in the area of early 19th century German opera, and his research centers on the collective reception history of German language opera in print media. In addition to his contributions to the journals "Music Research Forum" and "Ethnomusicology," he also has reviewed symphony concerts for "The Cincinnati Post." Recently his interests have expanded to learning non-Western instruments, exploring musical narratives in film and arranging new music for the Franklin College student brass quartet.
