The New Year is in full swing and, of course, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what you want for yourself this year. What I’m suggesting doesn’t cost any money or daily trips to the gym. It just requires a commitment to yourself that you’ll take a little time to turn those negative thoughts into positive ones.

You’ve probably heard it before but it’s not as difficult as you may think and the benefits are life changing. Have you ever wondered why you think the thoughts you think and do the things you do? If you’re like most people, you think about this quite often but don’t really take the time to understand how these thoughts impact your life. I want you to picture your life as it is now, your friends, your loved ones, your job and your overall health. How do these thoughts make you feel? Do you feel happy and fulfilled in these areas of your life or do you feel like you’re just a hamster on a wheel of never ending demands? You may not know it, but the life you are living is a reflection of your beliefs. The beliefs you live by, and how they make you act and feel, are the differences between people ho live lives filled with abundance and those who do not.

In most cases, people who continue to stay in abusive relationships, work at jobs they don’t enjoy, or struggle financially, do so as a result of their beliefs. According to Dr. Shad Helmstetter, author of What to Say When You Talk To Yourself, “75 percent or more of everything that is recorded in our subconscious mind is counterproductive and works against us – in short, we are programmed not to succeed.” If this is the case, all of our successes and failures are in some way influenced by these subconscious thoughts . In order to become more successful we must replace our negative thoughts with positive ones. That’s right. The thousands and thousands of thoughts we have every day can either be positive or they can be negative. Your commitment to positive thinking will not only change your life but also the lives of the people around you.

You can start thinking more positively by doing the following:

1. Change your vocabulary and beliefs. Speak positively to yourself daily; replace “I can’t” with “I can” and “One day I’ll” to “Today I will”. Understand you have the potential to create the opportunity for your dreams to come true.

2. Seek opportunities to grow. In every obstacle there’s a lesson to prepare you for what’s next. Don’t quit because you didn’t meet your goal. See it as an opportunity to revamp your ideas and start again.

3. Join a Mental Mastery group. These groups will help you learn to make affirmations, mediate and improve your subconscious thoughts. They can also help you develop habits to change your perception which can in turn change your thoughts from negative to positive.

Many of the struggles you are experiencing in your life relate to the inner turmoil you feel when you make a new choice that conflicts with the set of old rules you have created about life. Do you want to end this struggle and become the master of your own destiny? If you said 'yes' then you must master the unconscious beliefs that control you and start living the life you want today.
