If you’re looking to grow in your business, career or in your personal life, and own and monetize your worth while making a difference, it’s important to have a great support team. Jim Rohn said ‘You’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most amount of time with’. Take a moment to think about those closest to you. Do they support and encourage you, help you raise your game, and always see the best in you?

Here are some reasons it’s important to be intentional about the people you surround yourself with...

1. Wisdom of the tribe

As much as Google is our friend, it doesn’t make up for the wisdom, experience and expertise you can get from others you trust.

2. Power of connections

Think about a person in your life who was able to connect you with someone who helped you. Now think about how much greater your ability to connect with people who could help you would be in a supportive group.

3. Stretching you

Often when we work on our own it’s easy to give up or slow down when things get tough. It’s also easy to stay in our comfort zones, whereas when we are surrounded by people who are ambitious and supportive we get inspired to raise our game and achieve more than we thought possible.

4. New ideas

It is incredibly helpful to get a different perspective and new ideas from other like-minded people. Everyone has a different world view and a different lens through which they view situations, which can be very helpful when we need help overcoming a challenge or getting feedback on an idea.

5. Motivation

It’s not always easy to stay the course and feel energized and excited about what we’re trying to accomplish. Being part of a community can help to motivate us and keep us on track especially if we’re open to being vulnerable and sharing some of our challenges along the way.

6. Accountability

How many times have to tried to do something on your own without sharing it with anyone, but never quite got to the finish line? I’ve certainly done this. I’ve had an accountability buddy for the last few months and accomplished more in that time than I did the entire previous year! Having a person or group hold you accountable can help you grow leaps and bounds.

7. Giving back

The secret to living is giving. When you’re in a community of like-minded people, not only do you have an opportunity to get the help you need but you are also able to help others. One of my favorite Zig Ziglar quotes is ‘You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.’

These are just a few of the reasons it’s valuable to be in a strong, supportive community. If you’re serious about taking your career and life to the next level, I highly encourage you to join a community that will help you grow and reach great success. That could be a LinkedIn community, a Facebook group, a Meetup group, a mastermind group, etc.

If you’re a heart-centered, driven career woman, I’d like to invite you to join a free community of superwomen difference makers helping each other take their careers to the next level.

Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That’s why it’s a comfort to go hand in hand.” ~Emily Kimbrough
