Billy Morgan got it all started.

The 24-year-old snowboarder representing Great Britain became the first athlete to compete in the 2014 Sochi Olympics on Thursday when he took the opening run of men's slopestyle qualification.

Thirty-two hours before the official Opening Ceremony of the Sochi Olympics, Morgan recorded a 76.25 score in his first of two qualifying runs. He earned a 85.50 on his second run to advance to the semifinal.

American snowboard star Shaun White withdrew from the slopestyle competition a day earlier after he jammed his wrist during training. He described the slopestyle course at Extreme Park as "intimidating."

White probably wasn't talking about the giant Russian nesting doll on the course.
