FishbowlNY's Rebecca Fox reports surprising news from Magaland: Condé Nast staple House & Garden is folding (aka being shuttered as per our egregious puns above). By "staple" we really mean staple: The mag is a whopping 106-years old. Wow. According to the official Condé Nast release (also via FBNY), House & Garden will lose mag & website, despite an "award-winning" past. The reason for the shut down? "We no longer believe it is a viable business investment for the company."
What is a viable investment for the company: Existing shelter properties Architectural Digest, still relatively-new Domino, and fledgling Vogue spinoff Vogue Living — which is so viable that Condé will be increasing its frequency in 2008. Hmm. There are no doubt a lot of H&Gers who will connect those dots. No word on where the staffers are going within Condé, if at all.
Update: More from Jeff Berc at Mixed Media.
