If you build it, they will come. Or so the saying goes.
That is just the case in Rugby, North Dakota. This small town has claimed the title, "Geographical Center of North America," and they really mean it. A title that although may not exactly be true has certainly put this northern town on the map.
They built a monument, complete with the self-proclaimed title...
... and put the title on their sign.
All of this attention has turned it into quite the tourist destination. Travelers make Rugby a stop on their journey, whether it be at the town's Amtrak station or a pitstop during a cross-country road trip.
Either way, an obligatory photo op is clearly a must.
While Rugby is the acting "Geographical Center of North America" many point out that is in fact not the center of North America. The actual center point lies about 16 miles southwest of Rugby. Because that is literally "the middle of nowhere," Rugby happily took the title and has turned it into quite the destination for bucket-list adventurers.
