Several years ago, Northumberland County Schools Federal Credit Union noticed that too many local children started school without even basic supplies like pencils, pens, notebooks, rulers, and lunch boxes. In the summer of 2015, the credit union conducted its 11th annual "Stuff the Bus" campaign, collecting and donating 7,000 school supplies to students in three local districts. This joint effort of the credit union and the community provides children in need with backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year. People drop off donations in a "school bus" located at local businesses to be sorted and distributed before the beginning of school. This is one of the ways we try to help our local community, in the hopes of brightening the lives of children who deserve to have a bright start to their school year.
