
The horsemeat scandal currently plaguing Europe has made even the most adventurous eaters a bit squeamish.
But when you think about it, is horsemeat really that bizarre?
Surprisingly, slaughtering horses for human consumption is legal in the U.S., according to a recent report from NBC News. That said, no new slaughter houses have opened in this country since Congress lifted a ban on funding for the regulation of horsemeat in 2011.
