A pair of suburban Chicago men were charged over the weekend with ringing in the new year by firing more than 80 rounds of ammunition into the air before barricading themselves in a home.
Marcus James, 30, of the 1000 block of Chovan Drive in Joliet and Charles Steward, 38, of the 7000 block of Churchill Drive in Hanover Park, were both charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice Saturday night, the Daily Herald reports.
According to police, the two were allegedly found shooting handguns and a shotgun into the air behind a friend's home just after midnight Sunday in the 600 block of Grace Street in northwest suburban Elgin. When police arrived, the two barricaded themselves in the home for some time before surrendering, according to the Daily Herald.
Elsewhere in Elgin, stray bullets from another similar report of random gun fire landed in a baby's crib in the 1000 block of Bent Tree Court, the Chicago Tribune reports.
According to the Tribune, ammunition entered a skylight in the home. The incident remains under investigation.
No one was hurt in either incident.
