Foxconn can confirm that, sadly, a third employee has died from injuries from the May 20 explosion at one of the polishing workshops at our company's Hongfujin Precision Electronics (Chengdu) Co. Ltd. facility in Chengdu.

UPDATE 2: Apple is aiding the investigation at Foxconn's Chengdu factory.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragedy at Foxconn’s plant in Chengdu, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families,” Apple said in a statement, according to All Things D. “We are working closely with Foxconn to understand what caused this terrible event.”
Foxconn also issued a statement regarding the investigation: "The safety of our employees is our highest priority and we will do whatever is required to determine and address the cause of this tragic accident."

UPDATE 1: According to the Wall Street Journal, Foxconn has temporarily closed the plant until local police complete their investigation of the blast.
"The government appeared to rule out foul play, saying the explosion didn't have a human factor," writes the Journal.
Find out more about conditions inside Foxconn's factories here. A report released earlier this year found that Foxconn workers at the Chengdu factory had been required to sign a "no suicide" pledge following the spate of suicides that occurred at the facility.

PREVIOUSLY: An explosion has reportedly occurred at a Foxconn factory in Chengdu, China.
M.I.C. Gadget writes that the blast took place around 7 p.m. local time in the A5 building (A05), where iPad units are assembled.
"[T]he explosion caused many materials casted out from the building, and there are at least hundreds or more of workers inside the building," reports M.I.C. Gadget. "The whole building did not collapse yet, I do not know what is going on inside. Now there are more than 10 fire engines, 10 ambulances, many police cars.”
At least 16 were injured, three seriously, and two were killed.
The building's central air conditioning system may have caused the explosion, according to The Next Web.
