Gloria Mackenzie Reportedly Still Shops At Walmart After $590 Million Lottery Win

She may be a millionaire many times over, but Gloria Mackenzie is keeping it simple. The 84-year-old Florida grandmother became rich beyond imagination after winning the largest undivided lottery jackpot ever, but she reportedly still shops at Walmart.

Photographers caught Mackenzie and her son, 57-year-old Scott Mackenzie, taking a trip to the retail giant on Monday, followed by a low-priced lunch at a local restaurant, according to the Daily Mail.

The cost of the outing was likely chump change to the sole winner of a $590 million lottery jackpot. Rather than receiving all the winnings over many years, Gloria opted to take a lump sum of $370 million. Once taxes are deducted, she will take home $278 million, according to the Associated Press.

Mackenzie has kept a low profile since her win, only speaking out through a statement read by a Florida Lottery representative.

"We are grateful for this blessing of winning the Florida Lottery Powerball jackpot and appreciate the interest of the public, the State of Florida and the lottery," the statement read.

The lucky lady's decision to stay out of the limelight inevitably gave her an aura of mystery and even made her the subject of an innocent case of mistaken identity.

When a mysterious stranger offered to pick up the $2,600 tab for about 180 customers at a restaurant in Plant City, Fla., on Sunday, diners thought the surprise treat came from Mackenzie. People in the restaurant made the assumption with the knowledge that Mackenzie lives in Florida and because, as restaurant manager Stephanie Reeves put it, "it sure looked like her."

Ultimately, the patrons realized the kind stranger was likely a big winner from the nearby Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
