Heather Locklear Hospitalized: A Look Back At The Star's Troubled History

Heather's Troubled History

Heather Locklear was taken to Los Robles Hospital on Thursday after her sister made a panicked call to 911, prompting concern that the former "Melrose Place" star was "out of control" and under a lethal mix of prescription drugs and alcohol. And though her family has reassured the media on Friday that the 50-year-old is "in no danger," they also reportedly want the troubled star to check into a medical rehabilitation center.

Locklear's hospitalization rings familiar for those who have followed the problems that have plagued the sunny star in recent years. We can trace them back to 2006, when Locklear reportedly discovered a promiscuous email that suggested husband-of-11-years Richie Sambora was having an affair with a mutual acquaintance. Shortly thereafter, People reported, Locklear began taking prescription medicine for anxiety and depression. Locklear filed for divorce from the Bon Jovi guitarist in February 2006.

In June 2008, Locklear spent four weeks at a Arizona rehabilitation center to seek treatment for anxiety and depression, allegedly after visiting a doctor who had informed the actress that she had been prescribed the wrong medication.

But months later, in September, Locklear was arrested with suspicion of driving under the influence after a woman called the police with a report that the star had been "driving erratically." In a twist, the woman who phoned 911 turned out to be a reporter for US Weekly who had also snapped photos of the star. It was also revealed that Locklear had "no alcohol in her system and no illegal narcotics of any kind," according to her her lawyer at the time. Instead, he cited prescription medicine that "could have impaired [Locklear's] ability to drive a motor vehicle safely."

The DUI charge was dismissed in January, 2009, when Locklear pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to three years informal probation and a $700 fine.

But things would get complicated for Locklear again when, in April 2010, she reportedly drove up a curb in her gated Ventura County community and smashed into the no-parking sign around 4am, according to the neighbor who later phoned the police. In May, however, the case was dismissed due to what the Ventura County district attorney called "insufficient evidence ... to establish who the driver of the vehicle was."

In November 2011, Locklear and longtime boyfriend Jack Wagner called off their engagement.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated Richie Sambora as the drummer of the band Bon Jovi. He is the guitarist.
