In the past ten years, Rick Perry has brought our state to a budget crisis with a shortfall that cuts billions from public education, leaves seniors out in the cold, and defers the dream of higher education for tens of thousands of bright young people. Rick's got it made on the backs of Texan families, and he has his eye on the top job in the city he loves to hate: Washington, D.C. Rick loves to rail against the federal government while he begs for federal money behind the scenes from President Obama.

Is this the sort of leadership America will benefit from if Rick Perry runs for president? We don't think so. The Texas model that Perry likes to tout has been a disaster for Texans. Instead of addressing the real priorities of Texans, Perry chose to pursue "emergency" items such as sanctuary cities, voter ID, and sonogram bills designed to appeal to the conservative base. We've gotten Enron-style accounting gimmicks along with the smoke-and-mirrors rhetoric designed to hide the fact that under Perry's budget, hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost.

Not to mention the fact that our state is leading the way to the bottom in most categories: the highest percentage of uninsured children, coming in dead last in the percentage of our population of students with a high school diploma, and the dirtiest air in the nation. That's the real Texas model that Perry hopes will become a national model for America again as it was under President Bush. We Texans know best: just say no to Rick Perry!
