A tiny group of neo-Confederates sought to intimidate students at the College of Charleston tonight, 2-12-17 because of a campus appearance by activist Bree Newsome. Hundreds shouted BLACK LIVES MATTER and THE CONFEDERACY HAS GOT TO GO in response. Students and some faculty joined the multiracial protest against the group, angry at Newsome for her anti-racist activism and for literally tearing the flag from its staff on the grounds of the South Carolina State House. Her talk tonight bore the title “Tearing Hatred from the Sky.”
