Miracle Kitten Survives 1,000-Mile Trip In Car's Engine (VIDEO)

Before you start your engines, you might want to make sure you're not harboring any stowaways first.

A 3-week-old kitten spent at least two days trapped in a car engine during a 1,000 mile trip between Oregon and Santa Barbara, Calif. The owner of the car, a Honda Fit, heard meowing before she started the journey, according to ABC.

"She heard the kitten crying before she departed and there was nothing she could do," Julia Di Sieno, co-founder of the Santa Barbara-based wildlife rescue organization, Animal Rescue Team, told ABC.

When the driver reached Santa Barbara, she contacted Di Sieno who travelled 45 miles to help rescue the cat.

She enlisted the help of Chuck Love from a local towing agency to lift the vehicle to better search for the trapped kitty, NBC reports. They found him moving around the engine and, with the help of a sedative, the duo pulled him free.

“It took a half an hour, at least, to get it out, and after getting it out it was so cute and so small," Love told ABC.

The feline was dehydrated and had an infected eye, but Di Sieno expects him to make a full recovery, thanks in no small part to Love's help.

"He didn’t even charge us –- just did it as a good Samaritan," Di Sieno told NBC.

For now, Di Sieno is calling the kitten 'Love.'

Apparently, kitten stowaways are not entirely uncommon.

Earlier this month, another kitten was rescued after surviving a 300 mile journey in a semi truck's engine. She's now awaiting adoption at a Chicago animal shelter.
