The line-up for the Pitchfork Music Festival has been officially released, and as expected, it's got some enormous acts on the bill.
Pavement is probably the most exciting name to indie-rock fans. The group, one of the most widely influential in the last 20 years, disbanded ten years ago, giving their final concert late in 1999 in London. But they've come back together for a short reunion tour, which will include a stop in Chicago for Pitchfork, as was widely speculated. Tickets for their reunion show in Central Park in New York sold out in two minutes.
James Murphy, the New York DJ who performs as LCD Soundsystem, has been recording a follow-up to his insurgent 2007 hit Sound of Silver since the summer of last year. But if his next album has the same swelling energy and eminent danceability of his last, it'll be worth the wait. His Saturday, July 17 performance at Pitchfork should not be missed.
Also announced were the endlessly prolific and wildly popular Modest Mouse, and the rapper Raekwon, a member of the Wu-Tang Clan and the mastermind behind the 2009 release Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...Pt. II.
St. Vincent, Lightning Bolt, Cass McCombs, Here We Go Magic, and Sleigh Bells will also be performing.
This lineup is just the beginning--many more bands will be announced in upcoming weeks.
