Pampers Wipes has an inspirational video out that captures the faces of babies as they are taking care of their business. It's hilarious. Their unadulterated expressions range from pure struggle to pure relief. In the faces of these perfectly innocent creatures, I was reminded of the beauty of struggling.
Life is so full of surprises. At any given time, your well planned day could turn into a rain shower of unexpected happenings. What do you do about it? Often there is nothing that you can, except sit there and wait until the storm passes over. How well you handle the storm can also determine your immediate outcome when it's done. Some of us want to be in charge and do everything possible to speed up the process once we lose control. Others will want to run away from it and seek refuge elsewhere just to avoid exposure to bad weather. Then there are those who love to play in the rain, running through puddles and splashing water on anyone who dares to come near.
Whatever you may find yourself becoming in the midst of the storm, remember that it's an act of God and often you have no choice in the matter as to where or when the storm is coming. Just like with my little friends in the video, poop happens when it happens. Most of the time you are caught unaware when it does and at the utmost all you can do is surrender to the process.
If you've been around for a while, you know that nothing ever stays the same and that all things must change. The same thing applies when poop happens, remember it's temporal. You can choose to enjoy the scenery as it makes its grand entry or plan your celebratory return to normalcy once it's over. Or you can choose to let the experience scar you for life or recognize it for its slight significance and move on wiser and better because of it. It's your choice to look for the beauty in the middle of a struggle. Don't be afraid of the mess; it's a temporary situation at worst, and you just might find the best of you in the midst of it all.
