SANTA MONICA (KTLA) -- The city of Santa Monica is bagging the plastic bag.
Wednesday marks the official start of the city's ban on plastic shopping bags. However, the city won't start enforcing the ban until September 1, allowing stores a six-month grace period to get the word out and use up the paper and plastic bags they already have in stock.
The city wants shoppers to use reusable bags all the time. The new ban affects not only grocery stores and restaurants, but all retailers in the city.
