Author Marquieta Luckey is a wellness advocate and life coach for single mother’s. Her recent book Did Me and Paid For It was written to help single mothers take control of their lives in hopes to place their family in a better position to thrive. What drew me to Ms. Luckey is her ability to understand the unique challenges that single mothers often face. Her book offers strategies around topics such as co-parenting communication, self-care, finances, and dating. I am honored to have had the chance to interview here for my speaking her truth series!

What was the motivation for your book? The motivation I had for writing my book was to tell my story of the trials and tribulations I experience as a single mother and wanted to help other single mother's that have experience what I went through.

Did you find healing in writing your book? How do you think that translated in writing?

Yes I did find healing in writing my book. Writing my book gave me a chance to express my feelings that I experienced that I would not share with anyone else. Writing my book was therapy for me and gave me a better understanding of some of the pain that I experienced of feeling lonely and I was able to heal from it by accepting it. It translated in writing because it helped me get my feelings out without being judged by anyone.

What do you hope single mothers will learn from reading your book?

I hope single mothers that read my book would understand that no matter what you go through raising your children you will still be successful and you are capable of achieving your goals no matter what you have been through.

What advice do you have for women looking to write their own book?

The advice I have for other women looking to write their own book would be not to be afraid and get the story out their no matter how bad you think it is. Don't worry about being judged. Just know that their story will help someone else.

Would you mind sharing a powerful quote from the book?

Whatever your faith is, put God first in all your decisions.
