Suburban Couple Allegedly Stole $140,000 From Elderly Man

A northern Illinois couple has been accused of stealing some $140,000 from a 96-year-old man.

Rosemary Zink, 58, and Timothy W. Zink, 59, both of 2814 E. Chestnut Drive in Wonder Lake, have been charged with unlawful financial exploitation of an elderly person, the Northwest Herald reports.

The Zinks allegedly, "while standing in a position of trust and confidence" with the victim gained control over his bank accounts and withdrew the money, without permission, over the course of several weeks early this summer.

In July, the man was found to be in need of hearing aids after he was taken to a local hospital, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. When his account was accessed to pay for the aids, it was discovered that thousands of dollars were missing and that his funds had been drained to just $30.

The two were taken into custody Thursday and have since been freed on their $40,000 bonds. If convicted of the Class 1 felony, they could face up to 15 years in prison, according to the Northwest Herald.
