The Southern Growth Studio, a strategic consulting firm based in Memphis, Tennessee, is among the American companies that have adopted an unlimited vacation policy. Project lead and analyst Josh Roberts joined HuffPost Live host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani today to explain how the plan only works if managers lead by example and if employees take advantage of the policy.
"I think that's crucial to the success of a policy like this," said Roberts. "The leadership team has to show that they mean it when they say things like 'unlimited vacation.' But I think on the flip side of that coin, employees have an obligation to test the validity of the policy, so it's up to staff to say, 'I'm going to take next Friday off,' or take two weeks off in the summer."
