Susan Sarandon On Her Movie 'Arbitrage' And Her Views On Long-Term Marriage

"Hope Springs" gave a lighter take on what it means to be in a long-term marriage, but audiences will be treated to a darker, suspense-filled look when "Arbitrage" -- starring Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere -- comes to theaters September 14.

Sarandon plays loving wife to Gere's secretly embattled hedge-fund magnate. Despite the veneer of perfection, the 60-year-old businessman is in too deep: Along with trying to offload his fraudulent company to a major bank before his crimes are discovered, he's carrying on an affair with a much younger, and très French, art dealer.

The length of their marriage and the ability to look at the conflicts that arise when one is consumed by his or her career drew Sarandon to the role, she said in an "Access Hollywood" interview.

"What happens then, what kind of allowances do you make [and] up to what point, when you've been with someone for 40 years?" Sarandon asked.
