Ann Coulter’s November 9th column is typical in that she insults a bunch of people...her fellow Americans...and proceeds to phone in her column. Seriously...she could have actually written it on her phone, it’s so minimal. You can read it if you want, but basically after insulting Republicans (calling the Bush family “too pristine to sully themselves by voting for Trump”) she details the first hundred days of a Trump presidency. She simply writes:

“Day 1: Start building the wall.

Day 2: Continue building the wall.”

And repeats that on and on until Day 100 when she suggests Trump report on the wall’s progress and then keep building.

I will never understand why people read this woman’s thoughts and opinions. She has been maligning Americans for years, and yet she has lots of books published and a national column. No one is safe from her hate and vitriol, not mothers, fathers, patriots or widows. Who thinks this nastiness makes good reading?

Ick. Not me.

When did it become okay to be so mean to each other? Meanness was a platform of this election campaign and not just Trump’s, but mostly his. And if you don’t believe that, look up mean in the dictionary. (Wait, I’ll help: From the online Oxford dictionary - 2.1-North American Vicious or aggressive in behaviour: ‘the dogs were considered mean, vicious, and a threat.’) Now that the campaign is over and, as a country, we should be looking at working together to move forward, many folks are taking the opportunity to continue to take pot shots at other citizens who live, work and raise families in our country. I was going to mention pay taxes, but clearly that that isn’t really a thing anymore since our president-elect doesn’t pay them.

You want to know something? It’s NOT okay to malign or criticize someone else’s way of life. If you call yourself a US citizen then some of your guiding principles are that We are a people who want to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility and promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty. Not just to some of us...to all of us. All of US. Yes, I lifted that from the Constitution. I thought it was appropriate.

I think the first thing I will do is to counter-act, as often as possible, the hate and cruelty that has become so acceptable in our country. For example, I thought America was already great. It seemed to me that Trump trampled all over America in his scramble to the top and there were way too many people who were only happy to help him do it. We don’t have to make America great again...just greater.

My contribution will be to start putting my own energy out there. I am a writer. And I am an idealist and somewhat naïve in my thinking. What better combination is there than that? That strength is best put to use by monitoring the hate speech Coulter spews and matching it with something positive. Isn’t that a good idea? I’ve done it before and I can do it again.

You can call me the Anti-Coulter.
