'Dawson's Creek' Theme Makes James Van Der Beek Want To 'Hide Under A Table'

Being a teen dream has its drawbacks (also — don't expect a Netflix reunion).

You won’t wanna wait to hear this story.

In an interview with The Guardian, former “Dawson’s Creek” heartthrob and current general heartthrob James Van Der Beek didn’t hold back when discussing his feelings toward the show’s theme — Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait.”

“If I was at karaoke and it started playing there’s a part of me — and I’m a fucking grown-ass man with four kids — that still wants to go hide under the table,” he told the outlet. “I was at a pharmacy in Philadelphia and it came on and I immediately went into a weird panic.” Considering Van Der Beek, who’s more recently starred on shows like “CSI: Cyber” and “Don’t Trust the B**** In Apt. 23,” has had to field “Dawson’s” questions for nearly two decades, it’s understandable.

His nerves around the late ‘90s tune has to do with the intense attention he received as the star of the teen drama, which ran from 1998 to 2003.

“I think it’s tied to the pandemonium that accompanied that, for which there was no off button,” Van Der Beek explained. “Walking around at that time was very tricky because one autograph could turn into a mob scene. So I walked around in fear of teenage girls.” At least he knew that teen girls are a powerful force to be feared.

In this age where everything from “Full House” to “Roseanne” is getting the reboot treatment, fans of “Dawson’s Creek” shouldn’t hold their breath for an update on the Capeside crew.

When asked about the possibility of a revival, the actor said, “Some characters live with you for a while and you wonder how they’re doing and what they’d be doing now. I felt pretty complete putting that one on the shelf and not looking at him again.”
