When we last left Mystic Falls, Stefan had a very inconvenient case of amnesia thanks to the 2,000 year witch, Qetsiyah.

Damon takes it upon himself to restore his brother's memory, first by trying to get him to read his old diaries and then, when that doesn't work, by getting him drunk and unleashing the ripper. This is the delightfully irresponsible Damon we know and love.

After Damon's tactics fail, Elena starts trying to walk Stefan through their first interactions together and the early stages of their relationship. Stelena shippers everywhere can rejoice because this is vintage Vampire Diaries sweetness. Their trip down memory lane gets cut short, however, when Elena admits to Stefan that she's with Damon, right before the two are about to share a kiss.

Caroline has been studying/canoodling with Dr. Maxfield's lab assistant, Jesse, under the guise of trying to get some insight into why Dr. Maxfield helped cover up the vampire-related murder of Elena and Caroline's roommate. This canoodling leads to some light making-out in the woods, because, according to Caroline, her relationship with Tyler is "on its death bed." They're still not officially broken up yet though so do the right thing, girl.

Stefan, newly angry about the whole Delena situation, decides to take it out on Jesse at the graveyard party. "My brother stole my girlfriend...and my girlfriend let him. So, you tell me, what's the point of being good?" Stefan says before ripping into Jesse's neck. Caroline interrupts them before Stefan kills him and Caroline gives Jesse her blood to heal his gaping neck wound.

Stefan, still pouting, then goes to burn his journals.

Matt knows that he's been having blackouts, so he sets up cameras around his house and sees his "passenger," Gregor, takeover his body. Unfortunately for Matt, Gregor knows that Matt is watching and in a super creepy scene he slashes his/Matt's hand with a knife and threatens to do the same to Matt's throat.

Jeremy finally admits to Damon that Bonnie died when he came back to life. "Magic finds a balance. I'm not supposed to be here," Jeremy says to Damon and the duo cry many a manly tear. Poor Damon didn't want to believe it, especially since he then had the crappy job of informing Elena.

The group gathered for Bonnie's funeral and laid various Bonnie-related objects on a tree stump: a pompom, a whistle, feathers, a spellbook. Caroline and Elena burst into tears and Matt is clearly a mess too and, well, their best friend has been dead for months and none of them knew about it. Bonnie speaks to the group through Jeremy and Tyler shows up at the last moment to comfort his sobbing girlfriend.

Jesse, who is now healed thanks to Caroline's blood, is in the biology lab talking to the mysterious Dr. Maxfield. Jesse can't remember anything and Dr. Maxfield is able to determine that Jesse has vampire blood in his system. "That is step one to creating a new vampire," says Dr. Maxfield before stabbing a syringe in Jesse's arm. "This is step two." Jesse starts convulsing and it looks like another vampire will join the ranks of the Mystical Falls group.

"The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
