It’s been an interesting week in travel news. A lot of airlines are in a race to compete with low-cost carriers to take back some lost business. Do you remember the last time they did this? Delta’s “Song” and United’s “Ted” were born to compete with JetBlue. Now, airlines are trying the low-cost no-frills structure with their middle seats!

American Airlines is Being “Basic”

American Airlines has decided to follow in United's footsteps and offer a no-frills basic economy option for flyers seeking the lowest possible fare. Much like the United Basic Service, American's service will not include normal economy class luxuries such as seat assignments, available upgrades, or even use of the overhead bins. Unlike United, American's basic fares will earn you elite qualifying miles.

The move by american to offer this low-class service is in response to loss of market share to low-cost carriers such as Spirit, Frontier, and Allegiant who target those searching for the lowest possible ticket price in exchange for little or no amenities.

Seating: For Women Only

Air India has announced that it will be offering 'female only' seating rows on its flights. Air India's Revenue Chief Meenakshi Malik said:

"there are a lot of female passengers who travel alone with us and we will be blocking a few seats for them."

this comes after several alleged instances of sexual assaults on Air India flights. Air India says that their new policy is not related to the recent incidences.

Sleep on a Plane

Finding the perfect position to sleep while flying is something most of us has struggled with at some point during an overnight flight and there have been many products that promise to help. Well, a company called TravelPillow has introduced the “pockindo.” This funny looking pillow is designed to focus on well-positioned sleeping. offering 4 different sleeping positions to help you find the one that is right for you. But it really is crazy looking!
