A University of San Diego student was shot on her way to school Tuesday morning, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The student, 21, drove to school on California 163 from her home in Escondido. Once she arrived on campus, she told a security guard that "she felt a pain in her side," which turned out to be a bullet wound in her right rib cage.

According to 10 News, the bullet went through the door and the driver's seat of the student's Toyota and struck her torso. Police believe the bullet came from another car.

The Times reports that the student has a "positive prognosis."
