Valerie Trierweiler Cannes Film Festival Appearance Is Sadly Red Carpet-Free (VIDEO)

WATCH: Valérie Trierweiler Avoids The Red Carpet At Cannes Film Festival

Valérie Trierweiler isn't known as the most glam French first lady -- the journalist tends to eschew cameras and glitzy events (with few exceptions, of course). So we weren't surprised to learn that Val's visit to this year's Cannes Film Festival did not include a red carpet appearance.

President François Hollande's companion hit up the screening of Claude Lanzmann's documentary "The Last of the Unjust" on Sunday, and she managed to go relatively unnoticed. Rather than grace the iconic carpeted stairs on the Promenade de la Croisette, Valérie chose to enter the Palais des Festivals through the artists' entrance. Quoi? Pas glamour?

We've become accustomed to this kind of discretion from the 48-year-old, though, and we can't say we blame her for avoiding the scrutinizing cameras. The première dame that came before her, model Carla Bruni, had a special knack for red carpets, but even she faced harsh criticism when the public didn't think she dressed up to par.

For whatever it's worth, we think Val would've sauntered up those steps like a pro. Check out the one glimpse we got of her arriving in Cannes in the video below.
