Man Fatally Stabs 3-Year-Old Daughter Before Hanging Himself In Murder-Suicide: Police

A Chicago-area man fatally stabbed his 3-year-old daughter Friday before taking his own life, police said.

Robert Bzdek, 34, reportedly hanged himself inside his Woodridge, Ill. home after he stabbed 3-year-old daughter, Zuzanna, CBS Chicago reports.

Zuzanna was taken to an area hospital where she later died in surgery. Bzdek's teen stepson, Emanuel Szyszka, discovered the scene on Friday afternoon when he briefly came home to collect gear for gymnastics practice.

“I watched as they carried out my limp sister out the door,” Szyszka told the Tribune via email.

Szyszka told news outlets via Facebook he noticed bloody footprints at the door. When he called to Bzdek, his stepfather told him he had cut his feet on broken glass. The teen found the door to the master bedroom had been barricaded shut and that Bzdek had hanged himself inside by the time police arrived.

Szyszka, whose Facebook page is filled with photos of him and his young sister, has created a fundraising page to cover the girl's wake and funeral costs.

"The whole family would really appreciate if each person contributed some sort of dollar amount for our cause, and to every contributor, thank you sincerely for your time and support given such an atrocity," Szyszka wrote on the GoFundMe page. "You will always be in our hearts."

Officials in Woodridge, Ill. have not yet determined a motive but are calling the crime a murder-suicide and say there's no further danger to the community.
