In June, when I first heard of the massacre in Orlando, I tried to settle myself by saying it wasn’t something truly new
Vice President Joe Biden, in his statement said that the United States "is the only civilized country in the world with so many mass shootings." My question was, "you call this civilized?" When do we decide that our civility is defined by our ability to actually behave in humane manner and protect humanity?
This past week, the Internet, our editorial pages, and our talk shows have been filled with calls for gun control. That happens every time there's a terrible massacre like the one we saw in South Carolina. The talk always fades.
While states in much of the country were content to take quick action to address gun violence, Massachusetts took time to craft a comprehensive and strong bill which has garnered wide support. Our law in Massachusetts is unique.
