Canadian Screen Awards 2014: Nominees Announced For TV And Movie Honours

We're in the thick of awards season -- the BAFTA nominations were just announced, the Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, and we just wrapped the Golden Globes last night.

There's no better time to reveal the nominees for the Canadian Screen Awards, which honour the very best and brightest of Canadian TV and movies of the past year. Nominees in 123 Canadian Screen Awards categories (22 film, 94 television and seven digital media) were announced today via simultaneous press conferences in Montreal and Toronto.

TV shows and movies which received multiple nominations include sci-fi smash hit "Orphan Black," comedy veteran "Less Than Kind," (which just finished its final season), cop show "Rookie Blue," the Denis Villeneuve movie "Enemy" (starring Jake Gyllenhaal), Xavier Dolan's "Tom á la ferme" ("Tom At The Farm"), and Newfoundland love song "The Grand Seduction," directed by Don McKellar. Canadian film and TV stars like Tatiana Maslany, Jay Baruchel, Gordon Pinsent, Hugh Dillon and Sarah Gadon were also nominated. “2014 marks 65 years of celebrating leading talent in Canada: first film, then television and now digital media … with the greatest Canadian stars in our history gracing our awards year after year,” says Academy CEO Helga Stephenson. “From Mary Pickford to Martin Short, we have been blessed with the best, a tradition we intend to carry forward,” adds Stephenson. “Congratulations to all the nominees, you have already won.”

The Canadian Screen Awards are set to take place at the very end of Canadian Screen Week, which runs from March 3-9. The Awards will be handed out on March 9 at 8 p.m. EST, with Martin Short set to reprise his role as host. We'll see if he gets up on those high wires again.
