Obama fait un clin d'oeil au Cap-Breton

La campagne de séduction des Néo-Écossais aux États-Unis n'est pas tombée dans l'oreille d'un sourd.

Le président des États-Unis, Barack Obama, a fait référence au site web Cape Breton if Donald Trump wins dans un discours à l'occasion de la visite officielle du premier ministre canadien, Justin Trudeau.

« Où pourrions-nous voir une communauté, ailleurs qu'au Cap-Breton, en Nouvelle-Écosse, accueillir les Américains si le résultat de l'élection n'est pas à leur goût? » a déclaré le président américain dans un discours à saveur humoristique.

Depuis plusieurs semaines, le Cap-Breton fait parler de lui au sud de la frontière alors que plusieurs milliers de personnes ont consulté le site web en question. Ce site vend l'idée aux Américains de s'installer au Cap-Breton si Donald Trump est élu à la présidence des États-Unis.

Une équipe du réseau télévisé CNN a d'ailleurs récemment fait un reportage à ce sujet.

Du même souffle, le président a salué le refus des Canadiens de la Colombie-Britannique au Nouveau-Brunswick de voir un mur être érigé à la frontière canado-américaine.

« Nous apprécions cela. Nous pouvons être indisciplinés, je sais. »

M. Obama a également profité de ce discours pour lancer une pointe à un autre candidat aux primaires du Parti républicain, Ted Cruz, en mentionnant son lieu de naissance... qui n'est pas aux États-Unis.

« Après tout, où ailleurs pourrait-on trouver un garçon né à Calgary qui brigue la présidence des États-Unis? » a-t-il dit.

Le président a ensuite remercié les Canadiens, dont les Terre-Neuviens et les Néo-Écossais, qui ont accueilli des voyageurs américains le 11 septembre 2001 lorsque l'espace aérien a été réduit.
