Keffrelyn D. Brown, Ph.D. is associate professor of cultural studies in education at The University of Texas at Austin and a public voices fellow with the OpEd Project. She is co-author of Black Intellectual Thought in Education: The Missing Traditions of Anna Julia Cooper, Carter G. Woodson and Alain LeRoy Locke. She is currently completing a book on how U.S. federal education policies, practicing and preparing teachers understand the construct of risk and the "at-risk" label and category.
