Lisa I. Knight is James B. Duke Associate Professor of Asian Studies and Religion and faculty member of the Anthropology Program at Furman University in Greenville, SC. She earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Certificate of Advanced Standing in South Asian Studies at Syracuse University. Focusing on South Asian religions and gender, she conducted ethnographic fieldwork in West Bengal, India, and Bangladesh and published Contradictory Lives: Baul Women in India and Bangladesh (Oxford University Press, 2011) as well as several articles. In addition to gender studies, her research interests include intersections of activism and religion, ethnographic representations of religions, and everyday ethics of migrants.
