Tara Fuerst, from Tampa, FL enlisted in the FL Army Nat'l Guard at age 18. She met her future husband Joseph Fuerst two weeks after being assigned to her unit. In March 2005 they were deployed to Afghanistan just one week after they were wed. On June 24, 2006 Joe was killed in action. Two years later Tara was introduced to The American Widow Project. This group has given Tara the support and strength to be able to share her story.
